In the darkest days of my life, sitting in a prison cell feeling powerless and helpless, I wanted nothing more than a masculine mentor for support. I was desperate for a practice that would help me heal and become a better man.
Hunting is that practice when done with respect, reverence, and a desire for self-growth.
From that rock bottom moment, I have come a long way and I want to share the things I have learned through my book.
Sacred Hunting: Rekindling an Ancient Spiritual Practice is about hunting, it is about indigenous spiritual practices, and it’s about plant medicines…
But most importantly, it’s about helping you to become the greatest version of yourself.
My hope is that this book inspires you to take the next step towards achieving your greatness. Whether that is on a Sacred Hunting experience, paid for with blood, sweat, and tears, or if you choose to seek out this growth on your own.
Whatever you choose, this book is my gift to the world.
I hope it serves you in some way.
- Mansal "Little Beaver" Denton, author
“Every wound is a womb.” – Robert Bly
Mansal Denton is the founder of Sacred Hunting. Feeling wounded and insecure in early life, Mansal chased a woman to Europe, which led him to prison. Struggling with shame and confusion about being a man, he found his calling in the sacred art of hunting.
His passion was fostered and encouraged by his spiritual teacher, an elder named Will Taegel “Star Heart”. Over nine years of sweat lodges and council walks, Mansal grew wiser as a man and attracted friends who desired to hunt like him. From here, Sacred Hunting was born.
"Sacred Hunting — a book like no other — reads like a song of healing, a reminder to the reader of our proper place on the landscape and our right-relationship with the Earth. Reuniting the hunter with the hunted, it’s a gentle invitation into another way of interpreting the world. This vulnerable account of one man’s journey is both a daily devotional and a manual on how to reverently approach the hunt, one that the non, and even the anti-hunter, will respect and appreciate...Rather than defending the hunt, Mansal Denton is taking responsibility for it. The beauty, yes, but also the pain, violence, and even sadness that are part of it too. His is a message of total unification, one that the world of hunting desperately needs now more than ever."
